Designed Right.
Built To Match.
Teston designs components, tooling and assemblies under documented, controlled procedures — the same discipline we bring to every part we machine and fabricate. Design and engineering is a growing part of our business, developed alongside our Quality Management System.
What We Design
Design work is carried out by the same team that machines and fabricates the result. That means every design is developed against real tooling, real tolerances and real lead times from the first sketch.
Concept & Product Design
New part and product concepts developed from performance requirements, service conditions and the realities of the shop floor.
Design for Manufacturability
Designs reviewed against our machining, fabrication and assembly capabilities before a chip is cut or a weld is laid.
Reverse Engineering
Legacy or obsolete components measured, modeled and documented so they can be reproduced, repaired or improved.
CAD Modeling & Documentation
3D models, assemblies and detail drawings issued with revision control and defined tolerances.
Fixtures, Jigs & Tooling
Work-holding and tooling designed to hold tolerance and repeat across a production run.
Design Modification & Revision
Controlled revisions to an existing design, with the change, its reason and its approval recorded.
Our Design Policy
Teston Machine Corporation designs and develops components, tooling and assemblies only under defined, documented and controlled conditions. Design inputs are confirmed with the customer before work begins, design outputs are reviewed against those inputs before release, and every subsequent change is identified, approved and recorded. This policy applies to all design and development activity carried out by the company, whether for a customer project or for internal tooling and process development.
- Design activities are planned and controlled from concept through release.
- Design inputs are defined, reviewed and confirmed with the customer before work begins.
- Design outputs are produced against the agreed inputs and reviewed before release.
- Interfaces and responsibilities between Teston and the customer are defined for every project.
- Changes to a released design are identified, reviewed, approved and recorded.
- Design records are retained and remain traceable to the project they belong to.
How a Design Project Runs
Every design project follows the same controlled sequence, with the findings of each stage documented and retained in the design record.
Design Inputs
Requirements, service conditions, interfaces, applicable standards and constraints are captured and confirmed with the customer in writing.
Design Planning
Stages, reviews, verification and validation activities are planned for the project, with responsibilities assigned.
Design Outputs
Models, drawings, specifications and bills of material are produced against the agreed inputs and reviewed for adequacy.
Design Review
Outputs are reviewed against inputs at planned stages, with the participants, findings and actions documented.
Verification & Validation
The design is verified against its requirements and validated against its intended use where the project calls for it.
Change Control
Every change after release is identified, reviewed, approved and recorded against the design record before it is implemented.
Design Controls In Our QMS
Design and development is a defined element of our Quality Management System, structured around the planning, input, control, output and change requirements of ISO 9001 clause 8.3.
Planning
Design stages, reviews, verification and validation activities are planned and assigned before work starts.
Inputs
Functional, performance, statutory and interface requirements are determined, reviewed and retained.
Controls
Planned reviews, verification and validation are performed and their results recorded.
Outputs
Outputs meet input requirements, reference acceptance criteria and are released only after review.
Changes
Design changes are identified, reviewed, approved and controlled, with the effect on delivered product considered.
Records
The design record is retained so inputs, outputs, reviews, approvals and changes stay traceable.
Teston Machine Corporation is not currently ISO 9001 or AS9100 certified. Design and development (clause 8.3) is being formally incorporated into our Quality Management System as part of the certification program we are actively working through. This page describes the controls we apply today and the scope we are building toward.
Who Owns the Design
Ownership of a design, and the right to use what we deliver, depends on where the design came from and what was agreed. These terms are settled in writing for each project before any design work begins, so there is never any ambiguity once drawings start moving.
Ownership agreed per project
Who owns the design and any resulting intellectual property is agreed in writing for each project before work begins.
Customer-supplied designs
Drawings, models and specifications provided by the customer remain the customer's property. We use them only to complete the agreed work.
Teston-developed designs
Where Teston develops the design, ownership and any licence to manufacture are defined in the project agreement.
Permitted use of deliverables
Deliverables are issued for the purpose agreed for that project. Any other use, reproduction or transfer requires written permission.
Confidentiality
Customer drawings, models and technical data are treated as confidential and are not shared outside the project.
Retained records
The design record, including revisions and approvals, is retained so scope and ownership remain traceable.
Nothing on this page transfers ownership of a design. Ownership and permitted use are confirmed in the written agreement for each individual project.
